What is a CMS collection?
A CMS collection is a set of content items that share the same fields, such as blog posts, case studies or team members. Each item fills in the fields, and the site renders every item through one template page and lists them wherever they are needed. Framer and Webflow both organise their CMS this way.
How a collection is set up
First define the fields: a title, a slug, a date, images, rich text, references to other collections and options. Then design the template page once and add collection lists to other pages to show items in grids, sliders or filtered views.
Why structure matters
A clear model keeps content consistent and makes pages quick to add. It also makes the content easier to move later, because each field maps cleanly to the same field in a headless CMS or another builder.
Limits to plan for
Builders cap the number of collections, items and fields on each plan, and nested references are limited. Large or highly connected content may fit better in a headless CMS such as Sanity.
