WordPress to Framer migration

A WordPress to Framer migration moves your posts into Framer's CMS through CSV import and rebuilds the theme as a Framer site your team can edit without plugins. We map permalinks to new CMS paths with wildcard redirects, carry over SEO metadata and launch in about two to four weeks for a typical marketing site.

Why teams move

Why teams move from WordPress to Framer

  • Marketing wants to edit without a developer

Framer gives the team a visual canvas and a CMS in one place, so landing pages, copy changes and new posts no longer wait for someone who knows the theme.
  • No plugins to keep patched

Framer hosts the site and handles the platform, so the cycle of core, theme and plugin updates on a WordPress marketing site goes away.
  • A design the site can actually match

Many WordPress marketing sites sit on a theme that fights the brand.

Rebuilding in Framer as a component system lets the site match the design properly and stay that way.

What moves

What carries over, and what needs work

Carries over

  • Posts and their bodies, imported through Framer's CSV Import plugin with rich text as HTML
  • Featured images and inline media, referenced by absolute URLs during import
  • Publish dates in ISO 8601 format, so archives keep their order
  • Slugs, which become the CMS item paths and update existing items on re-import
  • Titles and meta descriptions, bound to CMS fields on the detail page

Needs work in Framer

  • Theme templatesPHP templates, widgets and shortcodes have no equivalent in Framer.

Each page type is rebuilt as a Framer page or CMS detail page from the agreed design.

  • Plugin featuresContact forms, sliders, popups and similar plugins are replaced with Framer forms, components or a small code component, one by one, after we list what each plugin actually does.
  • Comments and user accountsComments are in the WordPress export but are not a Framer CMS field type, and member logins are out of scope for a Framer marketing site.

We agree what to archive or replace before the move.

  • Complex custom post typesDeeply nested custom post types and taxonomies are flattened into Framer collections with references, which works well up to a point and is planned field by field.

Content model

How WordPress content maps to Framer

We map every field before anything moves, so content is not retyped by hand and nothing is dropped without a decision.

Redirects and SEO

Protecting rankings during the move

The redirect plan

  • Old permalinks to new CMS paths

Date-based WordPress permalinks such as /2026/03/sample-post/ map to a Framer path like /blog/:slug with a wildcard rule and a capture reference, rather than hundreds of single rules.
  • Rules live in Framer

Framer redirects are set in Site Settings under Hosting, support * wildcards and :1 style captures, and route permanently.

Your plan must include redirects, and there is a ceiling of 2,500 rules.

  • Archives and feeds

Category, tag and author archives, paged lists and /feed/ get a decision each: redirect to the closest Framer page, or retire deliberately.

Nothing is left to 404 by accident.

Risks we watch for

  • SEO plugin metadata

Tuned titles and descriptions from an SEO plugin sit in post meta, not in the post content.

We export them and map them to CMS fields so every page keeps its own metadata.

  • Files linked from other sites

PDFs and images under /wp-content/uploads/ often carry backlinks.

The ones that earn visits are re-uploaded and redirected so those links keep working.

  • Losing quiet slug redirects

WordPress redirects posts whose slug changed. Framer will not know those history slugs, so they are added to the redirect rules before launch.

Timeline and fit

How long it takes, and whether it suits you

Typical timeline

WordPress to Framer

weeks

2to4weeks

What the range assumes

Two to four weeks is our published range for migrating a typical marketing site. It assumes a design is agreed, content is final, and the page count is modest. A large blog, heavy custom post types or many plugin features to replace push it beyond that, and we say so after the crawl.

We confirm the timeline for your site after the initial audit, since the number of URLs and the state of the content drive most of the work.

It fits when

  • The site is a marketing site, not an application or a shop
  • Your team wants to edit pages and posts without a developer
  • Plugin upkeep is costing more than it gives back
  • You want a fresh design built properly at the same time

We would advise against it when

  • WooCommerce, memberships or bookings are central to the site
  • Editorial work needs multi-step workflows and many roles
  • Thousands of posts depend on complex custom fields
  • You need to self-host the site, which Framer does not allow

How we run it

How we run a WordPress to Framer move

Step 01

Crawl and baseline

We crawl the WordPress site, list every URL with its traffic and rankings, and record the titles and descriptions the SEO plugin is serving today.

Step 02

Export and clean

We export posts, convert dates, clean shortcodes and block leftovers from the HTML, and prepare CSV files that match the Framer collections field by field.

Step 03

Build and import

We build the site in Framer from the approved design, set up the collections and import the content with the CSV Import plugin, then check items against the source.

Step 04

Redirect and switch

We add wildcard and single redirects in Framer, test them against the old URL list, connect the domain and monitor indexing after the switch.

Common questions

WordPress to Framer: questions we get asked

Is there an official WordPress importer for Framer?

No. Framer's own WordPress guide uses its CSV Import plugin, which matches columns to fields by name. A third-party plugin, WP Sync, can sync posts, but it does not import WordPress pages.

How long does a WordPress to Framer migration take?

About two to four weeks for a typical marketing site with an agreed design. The number of URLs and how clean the content is drive most of the work, so we confirm the timeline after the crawl.

Can we keep our blog URLs?

Often yes, and when the structure changes we redirect it. A wildcard rule in Framer can send old date-based permalinks to the new /blog/:slug pages, so existing links and rankings follow through.

What happens to our plugins?

They do not move. We list what each plugin does on the live site and replace the features you need with Framer forms, components or a small integration, and drop the rest.

Next step

Want it moved for you? We plan the move around what already ranks.

We inventory every WordPress URL, map each one to its new address in Framer, move the content with its metadata, then switch over and watch indexing.

  • Every URL inventoriedA full URL list with a ranking and traffic baseline.
  • Every old URL mappedA 301 redirect map so link equity carries over.
  • Watched after launchSitemap submitted, then indexing and rankings monitored.
