Squarespace to Framer migration
Squarespace's export covers layout pages, one blog and gallery pages, so a Squarespace to Framer migration starts from a full crawl, not the export alone. We rebuild the design in Framer, import the blog, move what the export skips and keep post URLs matching, in about two to four weeks for a typical site.

Why teams move
Why teams move from Squarespace to Framer
Layouts beyond the section system
Squarespace is quick to start with, but its sections and templates set the limits.A Framer build gives the design the custom layouts and interactions the brand calls for.
A CMS shaped around your content
Framer collections have fields you define, such as references and options, so case studies, team members or locations become structured content instead of repeated pages. One system for every new page
Framer components let new pages be assembled from approved blocks, so the site stays consistent as it grows rather than drifting page by page.
What moves
What carries over, and what needs work
Carries over
- Layout pages and one blog with all its posts, through the WordPress-format export
- Text and image blocks, which the export includes
- Gallery pages, which the export also includes
- SEO titles and descriptions per page and per blog post
- Blog post slugs, so the last part of each URL stays the same
Needs work in Framer
- Everything the export leaves outProduct pages, album, index and portfolio pages, more than one blog, video and audio blocks, drafts and custom CSS are not in the Squarespace export, so they are rebuilt or moved by hand.
Style settingsSquarespace style settings and template choices do not export.
The look is rebuilt in Framer from the agreed design as text styles, colours and components.
Commerce and schedulingSquarespace Commerce, scheduling and member areas run on Squarespace.
Each one gets a replacement integration or stays out of scope for the Framer site.
- Second and third blogsOnly one blog page is exported. Any further blog is moved post by post, which we count and estimate during the audit.
Content model
How Squarespace content maps to Framer
We map every field before anything moves, so content is not retyped by hand and nothing is dropped without a decision.
| In Squarespace | In Framer | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Blog post title | Plain Text (Title) | Kept as the H1 and the title variable |
| Blog post body (text and image blocks) | Formatted Text | Converted from the export, image blocks checked |
| Post URL slug | Slug | Kept identical so URLs can match |
| Post SEO description | Plain Text (Description) | Bound to the CMS page meta description |
| Gallery page images | Gallery | Image order preserved, alt text added where empty |
| Blog categories and tags | Reference, Multi-Reference | Only terms that drive pages or filters kept |
Redirects and SEO
Protecting rankings during the move
The redirect plan
Blog paths that already match
Squarespace post URLs always start with the blog page slug, such as /blog/post-slug.A Framer CMS page at /blog/:slug can reproduce that exactly, so post URLs often need no redirect.
Date-based slugs
If your post URLs include dates from Squarespace's URL format, we either keep that structure or map it to the new pattern with Framer's wildcard and capture rules.Pages outside the export
Store, portfolio and index pages are listed from the crawl and redirected one by one to their closest Framer page, or retired on purpose.
Risks we watch for
Missing page types
Because the export skips several page types, a crawl is the only complete list of URLs.We work from the crawl, not from the export, so no page is forgotten.
Title formats
Squarespace builds titles from formats with the site, page and item names.Framer titles are set per page and per CMS template, and we reproduce the wording that ranks.
Old URL mappings
URL mappings stored in Squarespace stop working when the site leaves.Any that still receive traffic are recreated as Framer redirects.
Timeline and fit
How long it takes, and whether it suits you

Typical timeline
Squarespace to Framer
2to4weeks
What the range assumes
Two to four weeks is our published range for migrating a typical marketing site. It assumes a design is agreed, content is final, and the page count is modest. Stores, several blogs or many pages outside the export add time, which we estimate once the crawl shows the full page count.
We confirm the timeline for your site after the initial audit, since the number of URLs and the state of the content drive most of the work.
It fits when
- The site is a marketing, studio or portfolio site with one blog
- The design has outgrown Squarespace sections
- Your team wants structured CMS content such as case studies
- Commerce is absent or small
We would advise against it when
- Squarespace Commerce is the core of the business
- Scheduling or member areas are central and hard to replace
- The current site works and only needs new photos and copy
- Nobody on your side will edit the new CMS
How we run it
How we run a Squarespace to Framer move
Step 01
Crawl, not just export
We crawl the Squarespace site for the complete URL list, since the export skips several page types, and record titles, descriptions and rankings.
Step 02
Export and sort content
We run the WordPress-format export for pages and the main blog, and list everything it leaves out for manual moving.
Step 03
Rebuild in Framer
We build the new design in Framer, set up CMS collections, import the blog and move the remaining content, checking each page against the live one.
Step 04
Redirects and launch
We add redirects for changed URLs and pages outside the export, connect the domain and monitor indexing after launch.
Common questions
Squarespace to Framer: questions we get asked
What does the Squarespace export include?
The WordPress-format export covers layout pages, one blog page with its posts, text and image blocks, and gallery pages. Product pages, other blogs, album and index pages, video and audio blocks and custom CSS are not included.
Can my blog URLs stay the same in Framer?
Usually, yes. Squarespace post URLs start with the blog page slug, and a Framer CMS page path like /blog/:slug can match that, so many posts need no redirect at all.
What about my Squarespace store?
The export does not include products, and Framer has no native ecommerce. A small catalogue can work through a store integration; a larger store is usually better on a dedicated commerce platform.
