Framer vs Webflow

Framer vs Webflow: an honest comparison.

For most marketing websites, Framer is the faster, simpler choice, and it is the one we recommend for most sites. Webflow is the stronger pick when you need a deep, mature CMS, granular design control, clean code export, or you already live inside the Webflow ecosystem. Both are excellent tools. The right answer depends on what your site actually has to do, and we build in both, so this comparison costs us nothing either way.

Framer or Webflow, which one should you actually use?

The verdict

Pick Framer if you are building a marketing site, a portfolio, a launch or campaign site, or a small-to-mid business site, and you want it live fast, easy to edit without a developer, and rich with native interactions. Pick Webflow if your site leans on a large, structured content operation, needs fine-grained control over every layout detail, requires code you can export and host elsewhere, or slots into an existing Webflow stack and team.

Choose Framer when

  • You are building a marketing site, landing pages, a portfolio, or a company site that has to ship quickly and look premium.
  • Non-developers on your team need to edit and publish without breaking anything.
  • You want native, high-quality interactions and animation without wiring up third-party tools.
  • You would rather spend less time on maintenance and platform overhead, and more time shipping.

Choose Webflow when

  • You run a serious content operation: many collections, nested references, complex CMS relationships, hundreds or thousands of items.
  • You want granular, pixel-level control over layout and the underlying markup, and someone on the team is comfortable with the box model.
  • Code export matters to you, because you want to own the markup or host a static version outside the platform.
  • You already have a Webflow ecosystem: an existing site, a team that knows it, or apps and integrations built around it.

Three questions to decide

Who updates the site after launch, and how comfortable are they? How complex is the content model, honestly? How often will the site change? Fast-moving marketing sites maintained by non-developers point to Framer. Content-heavy platforms with a technical owner point to Webflow. If the site is really an application, neither is right and you want custom development.

If you are not sure which description fits you, that is what a discovery call is for. We will tell you plainly, and we will tell you when the answer is Webflow.

What is the difference between Framer and Webflow?

Both are visual, no-code-friendly website builders with a CMS and hosting built in. The practical difference is philosophy. Framer optimises for speed, ease and native interaction, so a small team can ship a polished site fast. Webflow optimises for control and depth, giving you a more powerful CMS and finer command of the markup, at the cost of a steeper learning curve. Here is the honest side-by-side.

Exact plan prices for both platforms change often. Treat this as the shape of the pricing, and check the live figures before you commit. See the notes at the end.

What does Webflow do better than Framer?

Webflow wins on CMS depth, granular control, code export, and ecosystem maturity. If your site is really a content engine, or you need to own and host the output, Webflow is often the better tool, and we will say so.

  • A more mature CMS

This is Webflow's strongest card. If you are running a large, structured content operation, many collections, nested references, complex relationships between content types, Webflow's CMS has more depth and more years of hardening behind it.

Framer's CMS is good and getting better quickly, but for the heaviest content models Webflow still leads. If CMS limits are a real risk for your project, that is a genuine reason to choose Webflow.

  • Granular control

Webflow exposes the box model and the underlying markup directly.

For teams who want to control every layout detail and every element of the structure, that ceiling is higher than Framer's. Framer trades some of that control for speed, on purpose. If you have someone who thinks in CSS and wants the reins, Webflow gives them more.

  • Code export and portability

Webflow lets you export your site's HTML, CSS and JavaScript on paid Workspace plans, though CMS content, form processing and site search do not come with it.

If owning the markup, or hosting a static version outside the platform, is a hard requirement, that is a real advantage Framer does not match.

  • A larger, older ecosystem

Webflow has been the go-to visual builder for longer, so there is a bigger pool of developers, agencies, templates, integrations and community knowledge.

If you want the widest hiring market or the deepest library of existing solutions, Webflow's maturity counts.

None of this is faint praise. For a content-heavy publisher, a large marketing team that wants full control, or an organisation already standardised on Webflow, it is frequently the right call.

Why do we recommend Framer for most marketing sites?

For the marketing sites, launch sites and company sites most of our clients need, Framer wins on the things that actually move a project: speed to ship, ease of editing for non-developers, native interactions, and lower ongoing maintenance. Those advantages compound, which is why we build most sites in Framer.

  • Speed to ship

Framer is built to get a polished site live fast. Less setup, fewer moving parts, a shorter path from design to published.

For a marketing site where time-to-launch is the constraint, that is often the single biggest practical difference, and it is why teams move from Webflow to Framer when speed starts to matter more than control.

  • Ease for non-developers

After launch, your marketers need to edit pages, swap copy and publish, without filing a ticket and without breaking the layout.

Framer's editing model is genuinely approachable for people who are not developers. Webflow can be handed to a non-developer too, but the learning curve is steeper and the box model leaks through more often.

  • Native interactions and animation

Motion is built into Framer, and it is one of its real strengths.

High-quality scroll effects, transitions and micro-interactions come without bolting on third-party tools. On Webflow you can achieve a lot, but it is more setup for the same result. If your brand leans on feel and polish, Framer gets you there faster.

  • Less to maintain, strong performance by default

Framer's managed hosting delivers fast load times and strong Core Web Vitals out of the box, so SEO fundamentals like speed and clean rendering are handled for you rather than being your job.

Less platform overhead means your team spends time shipping, not tending the tool.

Who it fits

For the buyers Urest serves most, real estate and built environment, education, and creative brands, that profile fits. These are marketing sites that need to look premium, move fast, and stay editable. That is Framer's sweet spot. And when the site is genuinely an application, with heavy integrations, custom logic or performance demands a visual builder cannot meet, neither tool is the answer and custom React/Next.js is, which we also build.

Does the platform matter more than who builds it?

No. The platform sets the ceiling; the team decides whether you reach it. A great site on Webflow beats a mediocre site on Framer, and vice versa. Both tools can produce excellent work and forgettable work. The bigger variable is whether design, build and growth are handled by one team that thinks about all three.

That is how we work. Design, development and growth run as one integrated team here, with no handoffs and no translation losses between the person who designed it and the person who built it. We think like marketers and build like engineers, which is why we start from what each page has to do before we decide what it looks like or which tool it runs on.

Because we build in all three, our platform advice is not a sales position. It is whatever fits your team, your roadmap and the actual job of the site, and we are happy to talk you out of the more expensive option when the cheaper one is right.

If you have already decided on Framer and want it built properly, that is our Framer development service. If you are still working out structure and design first, that is how we run website design projects. And if you want to compare the platforms and stacks we build on beyond these two, start there.

Common questions

Answers, up front.

Is Framer better than Webflow?

Neither is better in the abstract; they are built for different jobs. Framer is better for marketing sites, portfolios and company sites that need to ship fast, look premium and stay editable by non-developers, with native interactions built in. Webflow is better for content-heavy sites that need a deep, mature CMS, granular control over layout and markup, or code export. For most marketing-site projects we recommend Framer, and we build in both, so that recommendation is not a sales position. The honest answer is that the better tool is the one that fits the job of your specific site.

What is the difference between Framer and Webflow?

Both are visual website builders with a built-in CMS and hosting, but they optimise for different things. Framer optimises for speed, ease and native interaction, so a small team can ship a polished site quickly and edit it without a developer. Webflow optimises for control and depth, giving you a more powerful CMS and finer command over the underlying markup, in exchange for a steeper learning curve. Framer keeps you inside the platform; Webflow lets you export the site's code and host a static version elsewhere, without the CMS.

Is Framer good for SEO?

Yes. Framer handles the technical fundamentals that matter for SEO, fast load times, strong Core Web Vitals, clean rendering and managed hosting, out of the box, so your team is not responsible for performance tuning. It supports the on-page essentials: custom meta titles and descriptions, clean URLs, redirects, sitemaps and structured data. As with any platform, rankings still depend on content quality, site structure and authority, which is the work, not the tool. For a typical marketing site, Framer's SEO foundations are strong and rarely the limiting factor.

Which is cheaper, Framer or Webflow?

Both use tiered site plans, and the total cost depends on your plan level, whether you need CMS capacity, and how many seats or workspace members you have. Because both platforms change pricing regularly, we do not quote exact figures here; check the current plans on framer.com and webflow.com before you commit. In practice the platform subscription is usually a small line item next to the cost of design and build, so we would not choose between them on subscription price alone. Choose on fit first, then confirm current pricing.
